JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead

SALARY: The salary banding for this role is £90,440 - £106,400

LOCATION: Leeds

HOURS: 35 hours, full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

This role is within Intelligent Tech, utilising AI & Machine Learning to deliver innovative solutions, supporting our customer facing colleagues in our fight against economic crime, as a force for good. We’re looking to recruit an Engineering Lead to to deliver the highest quality customer driven software whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring and supporting their engineering teams.

You will work in cross-disciplinary teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high quality software and showcase excellent interpersonal and communication skill whilst efficiently working across the project life cycle to ensure software operates as intended. You’ll be an advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting their teams in resolution of impediments and issues.

What will I be doing?

  • Develops and/or delivers budget plans for own area with guidance from senior colleagues.

  • Meets the needs of significant customers related to complex, often customised products and services and/or manages a customer advisor department over a significant area.

  • Takes responsibility for implementing formal development frameworks for a substantial department, while informally coaching and mentoring others throughout the organisation and investing in own personal development.

  • Identifies shortcomings, then suggests and implements improvements to existing business practices, while developing and delivering projects or a workstream within the organisation's change management programme with guidance from senior colleagues.

  • Provides input into the development of IT Security policies, develops underlying procedures and monitors their implementation for area of responsibility within the organisation.

  • Manages the development and/or operation of knowledge management system with guidance from senior colleagues.

  • Develops and/or delivers a plan for a specific area of responsibility by managing others.

  • Sets longer term objectives and takes responsibility for implementing and coordinating performance management systems for a substantial department within the organisation.

What you’ll need

  • Experience leading a feature team working on Public Cloud (preferably Google Cloud Platform).

  • Hands-on technical experience building microservices, through the route to live in a Public Cloud environment.

  • Managing team dynamics, ensuring effective communication, and driving the team towards project goals.

  • Track record of mentoring and guiding team members, managing project timelines, and delivering high-quality software solutions.

  • Extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying microservices in a public cloud environment.

  • Proficiency in tools and technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

What will be desirable:

  • Experience working with Machine Learning and AI tools.

  • Hands-on experience of building machine learning models, particularly with products such as Vertex AI (or equivalent offering in alternative public clouds).
