Job description

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join the Debt Products Legal (DPL) team to help support our CIB lending business, principally working in the syndicated debt space. DPL plays a critical role in supporting the CIB lending proposition of today, whilst preparing us for the advances in the future. DPL serves as a centre of excellence and business partner, bringing a diverse mix of people, skills and expertise to the Group in managing the legal risks arising from our lending products, generating insight and value.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll need to:

  • Provide technical legal input to support delivery of transactions and strategic projects;
  • Operate as a specialist legal adviser in respect of large corporate lending, particularly syndicated lending;
  • Build trust and internal networks and relationships to provide appropriate professional advice to achieve the Group’s objectives;
  • Challenge and influence our partners, and deputise for senior colleagues where appropriate;
  • Collaborate with the other key legal areas within Legal & Secretariat, both to support our business and to positively influence our community as a great place to work; and
  • Be agile and keen to upskill and willing to support legal, regulatory or other projects across BCCIB Legal as well as wider  Legal & Secretariat teams, products and businesses as appropriate.

Essentials:

  • A current practising certificate in a relevant jurisdiction;
  • Experience and a good understanding of the legal and regulatory framework and market practices applying to commercial lending, particularly in the syndicated lending space; and
  • Post-qualifying legal experience in the above areas of expertise.

Desirables:

It would be useful to also have:

  • Experience and knowledge of one or more of: (i) infrastructure and project finance; (ii) financial sponsors lending; and (iii) real estate finance; and
  • A working understanding of the delivery model for commercial lending.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
  • An annual performance-related bonus
  • Share schemes including free shares
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top
  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies

As a colleague of the Group, we’ll provide you with continuous training and development opportunities and regular career development conversations to help you fulfil your career potential, whatever your aspirations may be.

We're committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the customers and communities we serve, and to building an inclusive environment where all our colleagues can be themselves and succeed on merit. We support the principles of agile working and are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We're an equal opportunity employer and deeply value diversity within our organisation.
