Across our Lex Autolease, Black Horse and Tusker brands, we are playing a significant role in the country’s sustainable transport transition, with one of the UK’s largest fleets of electric vehicles.

Surface transport, like cars and buses, is the biggest source of pollution in the UK, making up 26% of total emissions1. We want to help our customers make more sustainable decisions about how they travel, and help companies involved in transportation and vehicle manufacturing move to more energy efficient practices.

Our actions

We’ve provided more than £7.6bn in funding for new EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles since 2022, with our cars making up more than one in eight EVs on the UK’s roads.

We work with industry bodies and partners to help drive change, including The Climate Group – UK Electric Fleets Coalition and Electric Vehicle Fleet Accelerator (EVFA).

Along with expert partners, we have developed products and propositions to help customers understand the best way to transition to greener vehicles.

To support customers to improve their overall energy efficiency, we partner with suppliers to offer drivers charging solutions such as electric charging payment solutions, home chargers and smart energy tariffs.

We are working with corporate clients to set science-based targets and with government to ensure support for the transport sector’s sustainable transition.

Our policy asks

In 2023, we were clear about what we needed from the UK Government. Those asks, combined with other government actions, saw the early adoption of electric cars take off.

However, there is still work to do for vans. And policy needs to stay very consistent if we are to see an environment which will provide the certainty, stability and incentives for mass adoption of electric vehicles.

We have five key policy asks for government to help drive the transition to EVs:

  • Prioritise the rapid and fair rollout of charging infrastructure.
  • Extend the essential incentives needed to encourage drivers to make the switch.
  • Develop and implement a ‘battery health testing’ standard to provide confidence to consumers who engage in the used EV market.
  • Develop and deliver a communication strategy to provide authoritative, clear and trustworthy information on EVs.
  • Provide a progress update on the Advanced Manufacturing Plan and Battery strategy by mid-2025.
