Our purpose and strategy
Our purpose is Helping Britain Prosper.
Reducing emissions from the built environment is critical for the UK to achieve its net zero ambitions.
Buildings remain the UK’s second highest emission sector, accounting for 17% of UK emissions. Reducing emissions will require decarbonisation of the electricity grid, along with increased uptake of low carbon heat technologies and energy-efficiency measures and supply chain upskilling and expansion. Many policies to aid reductions have significant risks in delivering reductions required.
We have developed products, tools and propositions that help to increase customer awareness and encourage and incentivise them to purchase energy efficient properties or retrofit existing ones.
We're providing solutions to promote energy-efficient properties and retrofits, partnering with experts for heat pump and solar panel installations, and actively engaging with political stakeholders driving change.
Helping make the UK's homes greener is one of our key priorities, not only to help customers tackle rising energy bills, but to address the ongoing climate crisis.
That’s why we want to help customers make more sustainable choices when it comes to their homes. Whether that’s smaller measures to increase insulation or major changes to make their homes as eco-friendly as possible.
We have a range of offerings to support all energy efficiency improvements, from cashback schemes to borrowing options to help put these vital plans into action.
Access to quality, sustainable housing is becoming increasingly challenging, with at least 19 million of the UK’s 29 million homes needing to be more energy efficient, and more resilient to a changing climate. As one of the largest funders of the UK housebuilding sector, we’re uniquely placed to help change this.
From the creation of sustainable new builds, to finding opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of the UK’s housing stock, we’re supporting housebuilders every step of the way to provide the nation with sustainable homes they can live in and enjoy for many years.
Working with the housing industry, we’re providing green financing and sustainable investment products to clients across both private housebuilding and social housing sectors to help them on their journey to net zero.
Beyond investment products, we’re helping to shape national sustainability standards for housebuilding finance through our membership of the NextGeneration Executive Committee.
By supporting our customers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, we’re able to make an impact on reducing overall UK emissions on our path to net zero.
Our new Framework sets out how the Group will support housebuilders to access finance to build more sustainable homes.
We're teaming up with industry leaders, such as Energy Saving Trust and Octopus Energy, to help make homes more sustainable for less. This includes both cutting the upfront cost of installing air source heat pumps across the UK’s homes and reducing homeowners’ overall energy consumption.
We’ve launched a trial scheme with expert solar panel installers Effective Home, to remove the hard work of planning home solar installation and finding suitable suppliers.
We've teamed up with Energy Saving Trust, to support our customers with the right tools and guidance when it comes to starting the journey towards a greener home.
This support already includes our free Home Energy Saving Tool, which can be used by any homeowner.
We’re working with Octopus Energy to help our customers understand the benefits of heat pumps, and how to cut the cost of installation.
When used with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, our partnership and cashback reward could mean that for some homes a heat pump will cost less than a gas boiler.
As the UK’s largest financial services provider, we have an important role to play in creating a more sustainable and inclusive future for people and businesses, by shaping finance as a force for good.
We're focussing on where we live, the energy we use, how we move and how we farm to support the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive society.
We aspire to contribute to a UK in which all households have access to affordable, safe and sustainable homes in places they want to live.
