Regional development

We recognise that there is still more that can be done to help address regional inequality and create thriving communities.

We're working to address regional inequality and boost the UK economy through housing and community regeneration, capturing the benefits of net zero transition and creating regional economic opportunities and inclusive growth.

The role of universities in boosting regional development

Our flagship report in collaboration with PwC UK highlights the vital role that universities play in regional development, and calls for a balanced approach to their educational, research, and civic role.

Charities and communities

Prosperity means a sustainable, inclusive future. A safe place to call home. The education and skills to build a brighter tomorrow. The opportunity to do so no matter where you grow up. In a world you want to grow up in. That’s why we're active in communities every day, helping Britain prosper.

Through funding our four charitable Foundations, our bold partnership with Crisis to increase access to high-quality affordable housing, delivery of financial education to children and young people and championing sustainability with the Woodland Trust, we are helping tackle social disadvantage and support important sustainability initiatives.

Our charitable Foundations: celebrating 40 years

In 1985, we founded four charitable Foundations to provide vital support to small and local charities across the UK and Channel Islands, helping to tackle disadvantage in the communities that need it most. Since then we have donated more than £800m and supported nearly 70,000 small charities.

The Foundations provide core funding, alongside other forms of support, to help people overcome complex and social issues such as mental health, domestic abuse, addiction and homelessness.

Each year, hundreds of Lloyds Banking Group colleagues share their skills and expertise with charities supported by the Foundations helping them to continue to carry out their vital work.

Our Foundations share their insights expertise and best practice with the Group to help inform our customer and colleague propositions.

Charity partnerships

Working with incredible charities to make a difference.

Crisis

In 2023 we partnered with Crisis, a UK homelessness charity which works with thousands of homeless people every year, offering help so they can rebuild their lives and are supported out of homelessness for good.

Our partnership with Crisis

The Woodland Trust

At the beginning of 2020, we started working with the Woodland Trust to plant 10 million trees across the UK by 2030.

The trees we plant are all native to the UK and will help create havens for wildlife, boost biodiversity, and absorb harmful carbon dioxide from the air.

Working with communities

Digital impact and inclusion

We’ve long been an advocate of digital skills and inclusion in the UK.

This has been done by: influencing through the Lloyds Bank Consumer and Business Digital Indexes to provide market-leading insight, supporting colleagues with their own skills development, and external programmes.

These programmes include the Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland Academies and our Digital Helpline – giving free help and support on a range of digital tasks for anyone that needs it.

Volunteering

Our volunteering programmes encourage colleagues to spend at least eight hours per year volunteering for charities, schools or community projects.

Our position at the heart of the UK gives our colleagues an unique opportunity to volunteer in their own communities. By sharing their skills, experience and time to help communities to grow and thrive.

Support for the Armed Forces

We signed the Armed Forces Covenant in June 2015. The Covenant is our promise to the Government and the nation that we will ensure that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

In 2021 we were given a Gold award by the Ministry of Defence, in recognition of our support, the highest award given to organisations.
