JOB TITLE:  Backend software engineer  

SALARY: £68,202 - £75,780 per annum  

LOCATION: Manchester  

HOURS: Full-time – 35 hours per week  

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our office in Manchester.  

 

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY 

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Intelligent Gateway lab, for a backend engineer to further build, maintain and develop the bank's telephony channel 

 

As a senior Software Engineer within the Intelligent Gateway team, you’ll be working as part of an agile team to guide and implement technical solutions. You’ll be responsible to help promote sound engineering practices and to work alongside team members to architect, design, and implement those solutions.  

You’ll be using Git to manage most of the source code, and SonarQube to help monitor code quality. Jira and Confluence are used heavily for task management and documentation. 

You’ll be an innovator and join us whilst we are about to head into the next phase of our transformation journey. We're looking for naturally passionate and curious engineers, with an innovative mind, who can make use of our newly delivered architecture and support the evolution to a full micro-service application that can drive change, further improve operational efficiency, and deliver at pace!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

We like people who come from a diverse cultural background, with different ways of thinking who can challenge our current practices. That said, because of the nature of this role it is important to have existing knowledge and experience working in a software engineering role. 

What minimum skills you’ll need to apply: 

Software Engineering  

  • Experienced with the full software development lifecycle and relevant frameworks 

  • A proven track record of the Spring framework, Git workflows, testing (TDD, Mock object), and DevOps toolchains 

  • Cloud Deployment experience 

  • Experience with Rest APIs 

  • Experience of microservice design, container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Helm) 

Communication & Collaboration 

  • Phenomenal teamwork and communication skills as well as team leader/mentoring experience 

Desirable skills: 

  • Java developer expertise (Spring or NodeJS) 

  • Experience with telephony platforms 

  • Experience with cloud technologies Google Cloud platform (GCP) others (ICP, Azure) 

  • A passion for delivering business value through sound engineering methods and principles
