JOB TITLE: Principal Software Engineer 

SALARY: £104,686 – £123,160 per annum 

LOCATION: London 

HOURS: Full-time – 35 hours per week 

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at our London Office

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY 

The Identity & Authentication (ID&Auth) Platform is recruiting for a Principal Engineering to focus on contributing to technical delivery. ID&Auth delivers capabilities to enable Lloyds Banking Group's business areas secure client and digital authentication and identity across all their digital channels. 

 

The Platform delivers core products including: 

  • ID&Auth as a Service, giving end-to-end packaged services of several components for self-serve consumption to give strategic capabilities of centralised and reusable authentication services,  

  • a suite of authentication methods (either 1 or multi-factor depending on regulation obligations) and;  

  • a scaled, centralised and hosting agnostic Authorisation as a Service capability consisting of a Token Exchange component and the provision of a signed token for Channels to use downstream, allowing management of their access. 

 

As a Principal Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and security. You'll work closely across teams to align solutions with our strategic vision while driving innovation and maintaining technical excellence across all stages of development. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

  • Lead end-to-end design, implementation and delivery of future architecture for highly scalable, resilient low latency systems 

  • Collaborate with the head of engineering, product owners, solution architects, and other colleagues to define and drive the software engineering teams’ roadmap, scope, and delivery goals. 

  • Lead engineering best practices 

  • Drive technical strategy and direction for engineering team 

  • Deliver technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple entities across the group. 

  • Drive the culture of delivering highly secured and high-quality software. 

  • Identify and eliminate recurring issues by automating processes. 

  • Have cross-functional and cross-product impact in the organisation 

  • Initiate, design and drive high impact ideas using the right design principles 

  • Mentor and coach, software engineering teams, developing their skills and career growth. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

  • Significant experience in designing, building and supporting distributed systems and large-scale data processing systems in production with a proven track record 

  • Strong computer science skills 

  • Proven experience and knowledge of automation and CI/CD 

  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages, frameworks, and technologies, such as Java, Go, JavaScript, React, SQL. 

  • Practical experience of Cloud native solutions 

  • Advanced knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and experience with cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure. 

  • Experience working with Kafka. 

  • Clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, design patterns and core programming concepts. 

  • Good understating of cloud storage, networking, and resource provisioning
