SALARY: £70,929 - £ 78,810

LOCATION(S): Bristol

HOURS: Full-time - 35 hours per week

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Bristol office.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join the FinOps Engineering team within Enabling Services. In this pivotal role, you'll enable teams to build cost-effective solutions on Microsoft Azure while maintaining agility and fostering innovation. This position is perfect for engineers who are passionate about optimising cloud usage, enhancing cost observability, and championing a FinOps culture.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with engineering, finance and product teams to drive cost-efficiency across Azure
  • Design and implement automation to boost cost optimisation
  • Build infrastructure and pipelines using Git, Terraform and Harness
  • Contribute to cost visibility by using cost and usage data to enable self-service reporting
  • Drive sustainable usage practices (e.g. terminating idle resources, autoscaling)
  • Translate technical decisions into cost impacts, surfacing trade-offs to customers
  • Work collaboratively across teams to embed cost-awareness into design, development, deployment, and monitoring practices

What you’ll need

  • Experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering or SRE role, with strong hands-on experience in Azure.
  • Clear understanding of FinOps principles and how they apply to engineering responsibilities
  • Experience of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Source Code Management using tools such as Terraform, ARM, Azure DevOps, Harness and GitHub
  • Strong understanding of Azure-native services such as AKS, Azure Monitor, Networking, Security and RBAC
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and Helm
  • Familiarity with Azure Billing and Cost Management
  • Proficient in scripting using PowerShell, Python, Bash/shell
  • Experience in Agile working practices, Jira and Confluence
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills

It would be great if you also had

  • Azure certifications (e.g. Solution Architect Expert, DevOps Engineer Expert)
  • FinOps Foundation certifications (e.g. Practitioner, Engineer)
  • Familiarity with security tools e.g. Hashicorp Vault, Aquasec, Nexus IQ
  • Knowledge of observability tools e.g. Dynatrace
  • Experience in cost management tools e.g. Cloudability
