Lloyds Banking Group has opened its new hub in Leeds city centre, located in the most energy-efficient office building in Yorkshire. The offices at 11 and 12 Wellington Place were officially opened by Charlie Nunn, Lloyds Banking Group’s Chief Executive, on 18 June.

Charlie was joined by Leeds City Council's Chief Executive, Tom Riordan, to tour the new office in the heart of Leeds city centre and explore its leading energy-efficient design and inclusivity focused design.

Key features range from an all-electric reversible air source heat pump system and air-cooled chillers to triple-glazed windows and a 7,500 sq ft solar panel farm. These features all collectively heat, cool and power the space without the need for fossil fuels, reducing carbon emissions and making the office one of the most sustainable workspaces in the region.

The workspace has achieved the maximum NABERS energy efficiency rating of 5* in addition to an ‘Outstanding’ rating from BREEAM, a certification scheme that measures a building’s sustainability credentials. This makes it the only building in Yorkshire with these combined accreditations and is a testament to its advanced low-energy design and operational sustainability.

The site's landscaping design also promotes biodiversity and supports local wildlife, including the inclusion of deciduous and evergreen trees, enhancing the local ecosystem.

Wellington Place has also been awarded the Gold Award for a Bike Friendly Business in recognition of the excellent facilities and proactive approach towards cycling. Colleagues will be able to take advantage of the free bike and helmet hire, as well as the secure indoor cycle storage available on site.

Tom Riordan, Chief Executive at Leeds City Council, said: “It was great to see this impressive office space first-hand and to hear more about Lloyds’ support for our city-wide efforts to make Leeds cleaner and greener. We want to ensure the city keeps moving towards our shared ambition of making Leeds carbon neutral by 2030, and it’s only with the help of our communities, partners, and businesses that we can accomplish that. Having a recognised name like Lloyds Banking Group playing their part by making such a strong commitment to the city and its future will also be hugely beneficial.”

Charlie Nunn, Group Chief Executive at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “We’re proud to have made a major office investment in Leeds, with our new premises at Wellington Place.  With first-class sustainable systems to heat, cool and power the space, this is one of the most energy-efficient office buildings in the region and great example of what’s possible across the UK.

“Considerable thought and care has gone into the entire site, in order to create a biodiverse environment which is a brilliant place to visit, work and enjoy.  This long-term, sustainable investment in Yorkshire’s infrastructure will support our colleagues, customers and communities, now and for the future.”
