About the opportunity

At Lloyds Banking Group, we are seeking an exceptional and experienced Principal Design Researcher to join our Experience Design Team. If you have a passion for uncovering insights, driving innovation, and crafting customer-centric solutions, this is the role for you.

As a driving force in shaping the future of our organisation. Your keen eye for detail and critical thinking will be instrumental in understanding the needs of our customers and clients, enabling us to deliver experiences that exceed their expectations.

Your days will be filled with exciting challenges and rewarding opportunities. Responsible for all research activities within your domain, guiding the team in translating business objectives into well-crafted research plans.

Joining the leadership team of a multi-disciplinary Design Squad, you will collaborate with analytical practitioners to triangulate the primary and secondary insights that will underpin our design approaches. Your ability to work alongside Product and Engineering communities will ensure that our research efforts are precisely aligned with their needs, driving the efficient delivery of high quality, impactful stories.

But it doesn't end there. The principal researcher also plays a key role in developing our growing team of design researchers. Your mentorship and coaching will foster their growth and ignite their potential, resulting in an impactful team delivering top-quality research outputs.

The successful candidate will be someone with a true passion for design research, an insatiable curiosity, and a desire to make a difference. Your deep understanding of research methodologies and industry practices will elevate our capabilities and keep us ahead of the competition.

What you'll need

  • Extensive design research expertise, including a strong practical understanding of when and how to apply a broad range of research techniques.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills - working closely with various teams to understand business objectives and address their hypotheses with detailed research proposals and plans.

  • Able to identify the most important and relevant insights from research, and confident to convey those in an influential manner. Experience will allow you to lead by example in advocating for good research practices across your wider team.

  • Able to lead the strategic insight agenda in your domain, designing research studies that help to understand future customer needs and proactively ensuring designers have the right insights to inform their approaches.

  • Strong project management capabilities, adaptable and able to supervise and deliver multiple projects at the same time.

  • Able to work with data analysts to demonstrate both quantitative and qualitative insights to help teams make more customer-centred decisions.

  • Experience with quantitative design research methods.

  • Knowledge of and experience being an advocate for accessibility and inclusive design.

  • Experience leading a team of researchers – including task management, mentoring, and support.
