SALARY: £81,999-£91,110

LOCATION(S): London

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least

two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About this opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available in the Term Issuance and Capital Structuring team in GCT.


You'll be joining a diverse team, in a fast-paced environment, with a huge scope of opportunities to learn. The team own the Group’s capital markets activity, are responsible for the Group's wholesale debt issuance across public and private senior unsecured notes and covered bonds as well as the execution of AT1 and Tier 2. The team also manages the engagement with the regulator on capital topics, supports the Debt IR team with SME knowledge on capital topics, structure and implement the Group’s Share Buyback programme, and own the Group and its material subsidiaries’ capital plans.

This role is considered Certified under the Senior Manager and Certification Regime as either requiring mandatory qualifications or being deemed as a role capable of providing ‘significant harm’ to customers. Due to this, successful candidates and will be subject to enhanced levels of vetting, and required to complete a fitness and propriety attestation on commencement in role.

Colleagues performing this role will be required to be complete a fitness and propriety attestation on an annual basis and will also be subject to additional routine criminal and credit checks.

As a certified colleague your details will be published on the FCA’s Financial Services Register. This role has been identified as a Client-dealing function under SYSC 27.8.18R as defined in the FCA Handbook.

The Person  (“P”) performs the client-dealing FCA certification function for a firm if:

(1)  P is carrying out any of the activities in the table in SYSC 27.8.19R; and

(2)  those activities will involve P dealing with:

(a) a person with or for whom those activities are carried out; or

(b) the property of any such person; in a manner substantially connected with the carrying on of regulated activities by the firm.

If you manage certified colleagues this role will be identified as Manager of certification employees under SYSC 27.8.13R as defined in the FCA Handbook(1) The function of managing or supervising a certification employee, directly or indirectly, is an FCA-specified significant-harm function.(2) A function in (1) is not an FCA certification function for that firm if it is performed by an SMF manager of that firm.

Day to day, you will:

  • Leading the creation of the Group and subsidiary capital plans, ensuring the Group has the optimal level and placement of capital, and proposing strategies for capital markets issuance.

  • Leading the team to produce MI and analysis on the Group's capital and funding stack and wider credit markets to support decision making and messaging to senior stakeholders.

  • Leading on capital markets trades from both a structuring and a pricing perspective, as well as supporting bond life-cycle management.

  • Managing engagement with the regulators on behalf of the Group on capital and MREL topics.

  • Developing your Treasury, banking and markets knowledge through self-study, training courses and industry events.

  • Shaping the culture of both the immediate and wider team in making Treasury a great place to work.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in capital markets, capital planning, or related regulatory topics, funding and liquidity, or other relevant treasury experience

  • Proactively building and maintaining relationships across a range of different stakeholders

  • Ability to prioritise your workload and adapt to challenges as they present themselves

  • Experience and confidence in formulating proposals and recommendations, and presenting to senior management

  • Attention to detail and ability using excel

  • Curiosity and problem-solving skills with the ability to convey seemingly complex concepts simply and succinctly
