Job Title:  Assistant Sustainability Manager - Communications and Capability

Salary: £38,294 - £42,550

Location: Edinburgh, Bristol, Halifax or Birmingham

Hours: Full-time (12 Month Secondment/Fixed Term Contract)

Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at one of our hub locations

We're a high profile and impactful team. The Supply Chain & Technology Sustainability Team sits within Group Sourcing & Supplier Management, and we're responsible for ensuring we improve the sustainability impacts of our supply chain. This includes reducing the carbon emissions that our suppliers generate and ensuring our suppliers meet other broader Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) requirements around issues such as ethics, modern slavery, human rights and nature.  

This role is essential in supporting how we improve the assessment and compliance of our suppliers (new and existing) against evolving ESG requirements. We align ourselves to the Group’s Sustainability strategy and ambitions and in particular the Group’s public ambition to reduce supply chain emissions by 50% by 2030, on the path to net zero by 2050. Our broader team have accountability for Sustainability for the Group Chief Operating Office, providing the opportunity to gain exposure and learning around activity to improve the Sustainability of our technology and data.

In this role you will be supporting across the breadth of the team to ensure there is consistency of messaging and a more cohesive approach to managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

What you’ll do

  • Leading on developing and delivering an open and effective communication plan for specific stakeholder groups including sourcing managers, supplier managers, accountable persons and suppliers.

  • Leading on developing and delivering an innovative capability plan for specific stakeholder groups including sourcing managers, supplier managers, accountable persons and suppliers.

  • Build the internal and external brand of the team through sourcing and organising speaking opportunities.

  • Co-ordinating monthly key messages across the team to ensure internal and external events reference all relevant key topics.

  • Build external partnerships and proactively identify opportunities for the team to engage, collaborate and upskill.

  • Creating regular team updates and ad-hoc documents to support events and presentations.

  • Creating and maintaining a team learning plan.

  • Updating and maintaining the team SharePoint site.

  • Supporting the delivery of embedding sustainability into culture across Group Chief Operating Office.

What you’ll need

A passion for sustainability as well as strong organisational abilities and desire to contribute to a range of activities across the team.

  • Organisation: ability to keep track of multiple deadlines and ensure that activity is delivered on time.

  • Collaboration: will be required to deliver with and through others and ensure that team members know what is expected of them and are supported to deliver.

  • Communication: good verbal and written skills with the ability to adapt key messaging to different audiences.

  • Understanding of LBG climate goals: a good knowledge of LBGs climate goals with an understanding of what actions will influence the business in achieving these goals.

  • Creativity: able to bring new insights on how to engage or upskill key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience: background working in culture, communications and / or capability.

It would be great if you had

  • Experience working on sustainability-based projects or projects where sustainability was measured.

  • Experience working within a team primarily focused on supplier management or sourcing.
